WATFORD, U K (newsshopper.co.uk) - Young people from impoverished backgrounds in London are being offered a brighter future thanks to an international charity.

The lives of 300 British young people and 50 African orphans and street children have already been transformed by the efforts of God’s Grace Foundation (GGF).

In their latest programme, GGF are offering 11 to 17-year-olds in the Borough of Greenwich chance to register for free study support to help them with core subjects that they may be falling behind in. The sessions are aimed at increasing the participants educational and career prospects and will be held at The Link Thamesmead, London from January 25th from 5pm to 7pm.

Dupe Makinde, Director and Founder of GGF, said: “I am delighted that we are starting Maths and English support groups. This is a great opportunity for young people from less privileged backgrounds who might not be able to afford the high costs of private tutors “The sessions will help boost young people’s confidence, increase their access to better opportunities in the future, as well as helping to improve their subject knowledge and grades. The programme will focus on out of school hours learning classes and workshops for young people on core subjects in a group setting,” said Dupe, who works as an accountant.

The UK-based charity was launched with the aim of eradicating poverty through education and personal development in the UK and West Africa.

The mother of one student who attended a previous session said: “My son is really enjoying his Maths and English class on Thursdays. He has made some friends and I have also seen a difference in his result at school.”

Before founding GGF, the mother-of-two used her own time and money to do research, visiting Nigerian Schools and orphanages in 2005. After seeing the conditions she felt led to launch GGF to support young British people and West African orphans, street children and young people in one-parent families.

Dupe added “GGF’s aim is to grow aspirations and increase personal development opportunities amongst our target groups so that they can lead fulfilling and productive lives.

“Our aim is to increase personal development and advance skills to enable target groups to increase sustainable life chances through the growth of their aspirations. We take a multifaceted approach to education, combining health and academia to combat poverty and accelerate change in West Africa.”
