Stop seismic blasting in the Atlantic

Action: Save Our Oceans

August 25, 2014   Action Alert ID# 160

The U.S. Department of the Interior has dangerous plans for the Atlantic Ocean, and we need your help now to stop them.

This past July the agency said it would allow seismic testing in mid- and south-Atlantic waters, with the intent of opening these areas to future oil and gas drilling. Even as the agency gave its OK to the project, it openly admitted the seismic activity will harm an estimated 138,000 dolphins and whales, including some of the Earth's last remaining North Atlantic right whales.

Seismic blasting would wreak havoc on marine mammals by disrupting their feeding, mating, migration, rest and communication. And once the oil and gas deposits have been mapped, companies will drill as much as they can get away with, putting our beaches and wildlife at greater risk from oil spills.

Take action by urging President Obama to learn from the Gulf of Mexico's fraught history with offshore drilling. Tell him to protect marine wildlife and say no to seismic blasting in the Atlantic.
