New York City: Ban Bluefin now

Action: Wildlife Conservation

January 27, 2015   Action Alert ID# 173

When a single bluefin tuna can legally sell for as much as $20,000, it's no surprise that a market has developed to devastate that fish.

Fortunately there's hope that, with grassroots support, strong leadership at the local level can help turn the tide for these ocean giants: New York's city council will soon hold a hearing on a bill to ban the sale of this highly imperiled fish.

All three of the world's bluefin tuna populations -- Atlantic, Pacific and southern -- are struggling to recover from decades of overfishing. But you can act now and have a very real effect by helping to take bluefin off menus in a city with vast influence.

Write now in support of the bill to ban the sale of bluefin tuna in New York City and we'll take your letter to the hearing.
