Help Protect Oregon's Coastal Forests

Action: Stop Deforestation

March 7, 2013   Action Alert ID# 75

Comprising nearly 500,000 acres, the Tillamook and Clatsop State Forests are the only public lands on Oregon's North Coast and as such are essential for fish, wildlife and people.

Unfortunately, the timber industry has dominated management of these forests with protection of streams, old forests and recreational values all a distant second to corporate profits.

Now, the Oregon Department of Forestry is considering a rule that would allow recognition of "high value conservation areas" that would be set aside from producing revenue through logging.

Please attend one of two hearings:

Tuesday, March 12: Cannon Beach Community Hall (207 North Spruce) 5 p.m. there will be an open house with maps and refreshments. The formal public comment period begins at 6 p.m. To RSVP, email Noah Greenwald at ngreenwald@biologicaldiversity.org

Wednesday, March 13: Hillsboro Main Library (2850 Brookwood Parkway) at 5 p.m. there will be an open house with maps and refreshments. The formal public comment period begins at 6 p.m. To RSVP, email Noah Greenwald at ngreenwald@biologicaldiversity.org

If you can't attend either of the hearings, please tell the Department of Forestry how important these areas and values are to you.
