Despite years of science showing dangerously high levels of overfishing, the international community has failed to throw Pacific bluefin tuna a lifeline.
Adult bluefins -- those old enough to reproduce -- are near the end of their lifespan. If new generations of bluefin are to swim the oceans as they have for hundreds of thousands of years, we need to check our insatiable appetite for bluefin so the young fish can grow up.
While the problem demands a concerted effort the world over, the U.S. government is asking for input on rules for here and to recommend abroad.
Take action and demand an end to U.S. bluefin fishing and a larger closure of fishing on high seas.
