As the earth sizzles this summer, it's time to demand climate action

Action: Climate Change

August 5, 2016   Action Alert ID# 407

2016 is on track to be the hottest year on record around the globe June marked the fourteenth consecutive month of record high temperatures. Climate change is creating conditions for more wildfires and drought; severe coral bleaching is destroying the Great Barrier Reef; Arctic sea ice and Greenland's ice sheet are rapidly shrinking; and climate change may increase the spread of rare diseases like the Zika virus.

President Obama is committed to fighting climate change, but there's more he can do in the final months of his administration including taking bold action to counter outrageous climate denial by Big Oil, leaders in Congress and beyond.

That's where you come in. Sign the pledge to join millions of people who are standing with NRDC to build a national movement to counter fossil fuel industry power and #DemandClimateAction.

Yes! Count me in to support NRDC's national campaign advocating for real-life solutions to combat climate change, including:

Supporting the Clean Power Plan: We must defend President Obama's signature climate action, which will reduce carbon pollution from America's coal-fired power plants, from legal attacks by fossil fuel giants and utility companies and their allies in Washington.

Growing Our Clean Energy Economy: We must help states advance clean energy standards by increasing energy efficiency investments, expanding markets for wind and solar and encouraging utilities to bring more renewable power onto the electric grid and ultimately generating more green jobs for millions of Americans.
Driving Clean Transportation: Cars, trucks, airplanes and our overall transportation system may soon become the leading source of carbon pollution in the U.S. It's time to double down on reducing emissions from transportation.

Curbing Methane Pollution: President Obama announced rules to curb emissions of methane one of the most potent climate pollutants from new oil and gas industry facilities. But we should also limit methane pollution from the thousands of existing oil and gas operations.

Phasing Out Coal, Oil and Gas Exploration: To get serious about curbing climate change, we must kick our fossil fuel addiction. It's time to stop new oil, gas and coal leasing on public lands, and protect our Arctic and Atlantic coasts from offshore drilling.
