Fashoda Youth Forum Charity Profile
Fashoda Youth Forum was founded in 1999, as one of the mass organizations of Upper Nile Youth. In its current form, Fashoda Youth Forum is an autonomous Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) dedicated to improving the status of the Upper Nile Youth.
During the South Sudan’s liberation struggle, Fashoda Youth Forum succeed in providing social services (such as primary healthcare and other community development initiatives) to the communities of CØLLØ (Shilluk kingdom) land.
Fashoda Youth Forum is administered by a headquarter office located in CØLLØ (Shilluk kingdom) land. It lies in an intermittences basin with the Nuba Mountains to the west and the northern part of the kingdom. It lies between latitudes 9° and 12° N and longitudes 30° and 33°E respectively. To the Far East are the Kaffa Mountains in Ethiopia, which rise 1000 meters above the sea level. It shares the borders with the following districts: Nuba mountain of Southern Kordofan, Kosti, Renk, Bailiet, Atar, Fan-gak, pan-rang.
The river Nile and its tributaries and distributors form the main waterway and is of enormous historical, social, cultural and, economic significance to the community in the east and south with the white Nile along which lie the government of the Sudan (GoS) held towns of Malakal, kodhok and Melut. To the North is Southern Kordofan and Western Upper Nile to the West. The Fashoda kingdom is divided into (4 counties) two parts, (South and North) comprising of fifteen Omedias, each under a paramount chief.
The Fashoda kingdom is governed by a king (Reth) with absolute authority, since he combines administrative and religious power. The capital of the kingdom is call FASHODA in Gair (Northern part) on the Military side the kingdom is within the administration of Sudanese people’s Liberation Army/Movement (SPLA/M).
The Shilluk call themselves “CØLLØ” (CØLLØ is derived from the word CØL which means BLACK.) They are a well-organized people who have maintained their traditional authority structure. Unlike their Dinka and Nuer neighbors they are settled agriculturalists, for whom livestock are important but not as central to all of life as for the agropastoralist tribes.
The main goal of Fashoda Youth Forum is to raise the quality of life by bringing services closer to the people of Upper Nile State through the improvement of their social services and economic and rural development.
The mission of Fashoda Youth Forum (FYF) is to build the capacity of the young people in Upper Nile State, educate them and give them skills in affordable area of primary healthcare system, rural development, Community Health (Health education, PHCCs and PHCUs), HIV/AIDS awareness campaign, Community development, Youth development programs, Civic education programs and Community peace building programs. It also seeks to improve the social and economic status of the young.
